This group was founded about 25 years ago for people who were not sure of their ability to sing,or in some cases had been told they would never be able to sing.
In the more than ten years I have been leading it we have only found one person who could not sing in tune and feel comfortable with what we do.
Be sure that you will not be auditioned, you will never be asked to leave nor have your vocal prowess criticised, need to read music or be asked to sing alone. We try to have enough singers so that people know that their uncertain moments are hidden, but do end up giving performances for which we need apologise. We are happy for people to come just to Thursday mornings if they are not keen on performing in public when we are asked.
We manage to sing music of all styles and periods up to four part harmony (when the right voices turn up) - rounds, medieval songs, operatic arias in unison, songs from the shows, pop songs from our youth, 20th century songs by well known composers, in several languages, and with the assistance of proficient accompanists. You do not need to come to every meeting.
If you have wanted to start again after years not singing and wondered about your powers, if you were once rejected for you school choir half a century ago, if you have always been too nervous to try, we are your welcoming group and we are looking to build up numbers again after the effects of Covid.
We meet fortnightly at Hertford Methodist Church Hall, on Thursday mornings. Contact John Roberts
