The aim
of our group is to watch and discuss the sort of films that are unlikely to be
shown in major cinemas.
Why ‘Arthouse’? Now we have a new cinema in
Hertford it’s even easier to see blockbusters and new releases, so our aim is
to find niche titles, older classics and ‘great films we may have missed’ for
whatever reason. Over time we hope to develop opportunities to delve into the
art of cinema and its many influences and movements.
So far, we have arranged monthly screenings of
films chosen by members of the group at members' houses. We follow this
with a discussion. The day and time vary each month and are decided by a
Whatapp poll. The number of members able to attend may be limited by
space in the home of the person who is hosting. Because of this, we have had to
stop taking full members who are invited to home screenings.
However,
we also arrange trips to BEAM, several members go regularly to the Lighthouse
Screenings there and we and share information about films being streamed on TV,
or anything we think the group may be interested in.
Although
we cannot take any more members for our home screenings, we are building a
waiting list and hope may start a 2nd screening group in the future.
Waiting
list members are included on the general Whatapp group and invited to join us
for any cinema or social activities.
Please get in touch if you
would like more information.
