There is no charge to attend this group. Group sessions are at Hertfordshire Archives & Local Studies (HALS), the building next to County Hall. Using HALS' computers gives us access to national and international
genealogical information, including FREE access to subscription sites
such as Ancestry, Find My Past and several nationwide newspaper
archives. For those with a local family history, HALS holds vast
archives, including parish records, local newspapers, etc. Parking is available.
Meetings are on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month and members arrive at any time after 10 am and stay as long as they like. We have two WhatsApp groups: one for chatty exchanges and for organising social events: the other for genealogical business (those planning to attend the next meeting tell everyone when
they propose to arrive and whether they will bring a packed lunch). Lunchtime gives us a further opportunity to discuss findings & to try to help when someone's research hits a brick wall ... which we all experience, now and again!
This is an informal and adaptable group. At present, our sessions generally take the form of each person carrying out their own research, with experienced members of the group & HALS staff available to help, but, in the future, we plan to make trips to places such as the Public Records Office at Kew.
