Would you like to learn to play bowls?
- Are you interested in coming back to bowls after a break?
- Do you just want to play in a more sociable environment?
The Bowls Group meets every Wednesday afternoon at 1.45pm at the Bengeo Club in Bengeo Street. There is some car parking on site and the H5 and H6 services pass the door.
We usually play scratch games of triples or pairs over two hours (about 12 ends of bowls) Our games are competitive but there are players of all standards from absolute beginners to good club players. We usually take a short break about half-way through for members to socialise and picnic, though drinks of all sorts are available from the club bar.
We have male and female players with a wide range of ages. There is a certain amount of stretching, walking and standing involved in bowls. Whilst we are not able to take people with severe disabilities yet, we do have players with various impairments and the green at Bengeo has level access. We also have some aids for people who cannot bend very far, though these take some time to master! If you can almost touch your toes without falling over, stand for a reasonable period and see a seagull at 30 metres you should be ok.
Advice and coaching are provided if you want it. All the Bengeo Club’s facilities are available including the loan of bowls; or you are welcome to bring your own.
There is no dress code bar the need for flat shoes or trainers to protect the grass.
A charge of £5 per week is made but this is waived for members of the Bengeo Club’s Bowls Section. Joining this gives you access to a wide range of bowls activities and may be the best option if you plan to play regularly.
